A beach has reopened after almost two weeks, while bomb disposal experts dealt with "historic unexploded ordnances".

Millom Coastguard Rescue Team said Eskmeals, near Ravenglass, in Cumbria, was open to the public, following its closure on 19 February.

Earlier, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) said an explosive ordnance disposal team was on site "following the discovery of historic unexploded ordnances".

The beach is still subject to access byelaws as it is close to a military firing range, the coastguard team said.

Ordnance like artillery shells periodically wash up on beaches across the country.

A safety cordon had been placed around the site over the 11 day closure.
