Search launched off Cornwall coast

A search has taken place following reports of a person "possibly in difficulty in the water" off the coast of Cornwall.

HM Coastguard said it was informed of the incident off Towan Beach in Newquay at about 17:00 GMT.

It said the Newquay Coastguard Rescue Team, lifeboats from Newquay and Padstow RNLI and a coastguard helicopter had been sent to the scene.

Pictures and video from the scene show a helicopter surveying the water and the shoreline with a search light.
