Train travellers and drivers encountered delays after a vehicle became stuck under a railway bridge.

The vehicle reportedly hit Abbey Farm bridge, of Canterbury Way and near Thetford station, in Norfolk, at about 10:00 GMT.

It affected Greater Anglia's Norwich to Stansted Airport service that runs through Suffolk and Cambridgeshire, with all trains travelling at a reduced speed through the station.

The bridge, considered to be one of the most bashed in Britain, was inspected by Network Rail engineers before trains began running as normal by 10:35.

"Greater Anglia and Network Rail are sorry if your journey has been affected by this disruption," Greater Anglia said at the time.

According to Network Rail, the bridge was hit 11 times between 2024 and 2025, making it the joint seventh most bashed bridge in UK.

Coddenham Road bridge, in Needham Market, Ickleton Road, in Great Chesterford, and Barrowby Road, in Grantham, were also each crashed into on 11 occasions.
