More Jersey athletes get funding for global travel
Jersey SportMore of Jersey's athletes will be able to travel abroad for elite competitions and training opportunities, thanks to new funding.
Jersey Sport said £284,000 had been allocated for Travel Funding which is to be used to support 39 sport organisations on the island.
The charity, which gets most of its investment from the government, said the money would "remove barriers" by allowing the groups to plan their full calendar year, and give athletes the chance to "represent Jersey with confidence".
The sum forms part of Jersey Sport's commitment to distribute £1m into the Island's sporting community during 2026.
Groups will be required to apply for a slice of the money, and meet a range of criteria as set out in Jersey Sport's Safe and Sustainable Sport Health Check.
"We're proud to support so many sports organisations and athletes in accessing opportunities offisland," said Jon Le Fondre, from Jersey Sport.
"This funding helps remove some of the barriers to competing at a higher level than is available on-island, giving athletes the chance to gain valuable experience and represent Jersey with confidence."
He added: "It's about ensuring athletes from Jersey have the opportunity to develop and thrive beyond the Island, while strengthening the long-term future of sport locally."
As part of the Travel Funding in 2025, the Channel Islands Surfing Federation said help to remove financial pressures on families allowed them to compete in the GB Cup in Scotland.
There was also success for the Jersey Judo Association and Channel Islands Federation of Freshwater Anglers, whose members were able compete in tournaments in the UK and Norway.
