Police said a 34-year-old man from Manchester was killed in the crash

A man has been killed and another was seriously injured in a crash on the M6 in Cheshire.

A white Renault van and a crane truck crashed on the northbound carriageway between junctions 16 for Crewe and 17 for Sandbach shortly after 19:40 GMT on Tuesday.

The passenger in the van, a 34-year-old man from Manchester, was pronounced dead at the scene, Cheshire Police confirmed.

The van's driver, a 30-year-old man, also from Manchester, suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital.

A police spokesperson said officers were in the early stages of the investigation and were appealing for witnesses to get in touch.

Anyone who has CCTV or dashcam footage that captured what happened should also contact police, they added.
