Pet cremator to open by early spring

A pet cremation service is expected to open at an East Yorkshire cemetery by early spring.

Construction work has started at Priory Woods Cemetery in Cottingham, Hull City Council said.

Councillor Ted Dolman said it would offer people the option of having their pets cremated locally rather than having to travel out of the area.

He said: "The loss of a beloved pet shouldn't be underestimated, as it can be just as hard as losing any member of the family."

Dolman said bereavement officers at Hull Pet Cremations offer "the utmost standard of care" and would be on hand to discuss memorial options with owners.

Large dogs and any other smaller pets can be accommodated, the council said.

People will be able to book appointments directly or via a veterinary practice.

Ashes should be returned to owners within five working days, the council added.
