  1. Magpies looking to stop the rotpublished at 11:03 GMT 3 March

Newcastle v Manchester United (Wed, 20:15 GMT)

Newcastle join a list of Premier League teams in European competitions that have struggled for form this season.

Eddie Howe's side are currently 13th in the league table on 36 points, with Crystal Palace (Conference League), Tottenham (Champions League) and Nottingham Forest (Europa League) all featuring further down the standings.

Having taken just three points from their last five league fixtures - one win and four defeats - things are looking pretty bleak at St James' Park, with eight goals scored and 15 goals conceded during that time as well.

  2. Man Utd 'a great opportunity to rediscover form'published at 10:59 GMT 3 March

Newcastle v Manchester United (Wed, 20:15 GMT)

    Newcastle United

Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe on facing Manchester United, Manchester City and Barcelona all in the space of a week: "They are all pivotal games. With these games, we have to try to be positive and relish them. We can't play with any fear or with the thought of us not winning at home for a few games. We have to go and attack them. We have to play the games with our brains, not looking back and only looking forward."

On Manchester United under Michael Carrick: "He has definitely tweaked things tactically. It looks like he has built a really good atmosphere there, and players will play better because of that. He has been a real positive for them because you can see a real upturn in their general performances.

"It will be a great opportunity for us to rediscover our best form at home."

  3. 'Livramento getting closer and closer'published at 10:55 GMT 3 March

Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe on Tino Livramento's return: "This fixture is possibly too soon for him. He is getting closer and closer though. I'm asked a lot about him and I understand why because I do the same to the medical team, it's like a chain.

"We're desperate for him to be back but it has to come at the right time. He's slightly ahead of the schedule we initially gave, so he's in his last bits of his rehab now."

  4. Ramsey 'fine' but Woltemade 'down ill now'published at 10:51 GMT 3 March

During his news conference, Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe talked about an illness that has struck his squad.

Jacob Ramsey had to be substituted at half-time in the 3-2 defeat by Everton on Saturday because of an illness.

"[Ramsey] was in yesterday and he trained absolutely fine, so it's a quick recovery for him," Howe said this morning.

"There's obviously some kind of sickness going around the squad because Nick Woltemade has gone down ill now. We haven't seen him for a couple of days. Let's see if he can be involved, we will give him every chance."

Three games. Three competitions. Six days.

To call this a season-defining period for Newcastle United would be an understatement as Eddie Howe’s side prepare to face Manchester United in the Premier League, Manchester City in the FA Cup and Barcelona in the Champions League.

In truth, 13th-placed Newcastle are running out of league fixtures and desperately need a spark to reignite their domestic campaign.

Howe’s team certainly won’t require any added motivation for the visit of Manchester United tomorrow night.

These are the games, traditionally, that this side have relished under the lights at St James’ Park over the years, and a response is certainly needed given the manner of the 3-2 defeat against Everton at the weekend.
