Sheffield Wednesday manager Henrik Pedersen believed his side played well in defeat to Portsmouth, but admits they need to create more chances.
Adrian Segecic's second half goal condemned the bottom club to another defeat, with Pompey, 21st in the Championship, 35 points ahead.
The Owls were facing the only team they have beaten this season, but only mustered one shot on target.
"Generally, it was very equal. First half, we brought a lot of intensity from the beginning," Pedersen told BBC Radio Sheffield.
"Our pressing was really good and we brought a lot of interceptions high up the pitch. We played more transitions than normal, and we had more possibilities but we didn't create that big chance.
"We were good on the ball, maybe too brave sometimes but the boys are brave and this is what we want. We had more situations where we sped up the game and more situations around the box."
Pedersen has challenged the team to become more threatening in attack, but is encouraged by their play in possession.
"The challenge is to make possibilities into chances and chances into big chances. We need to improve that last part.
"We didn't have the power to come back in the game after the goal. I can see development with the ball, but to be effective on the ball, we have to develop how we break the lines."

Manchester City youngster Jaden Heskey has joined Sheffield Wednesday on loan.
The 20-year-old forward has moved to Hillsborough until the end of the season to help the Owls at the foot of the Championship.
Wednesday are bottom of the table and 32 points from safety having been deducted 18 points for going into administration and breaching EFL rules relating to payment obligations.
It is his only senior appearance, although he has played twice in the Football League Trophy this season.
He is captain of City's elite development squad this season, having won Premier League 2 last term, and had interest from a number of Championship and League One sides.

Sheffield Wednesday will seek to compete an unlikely Championship double when Portsmouth head to Hillsborough on Saturday (15:00 GMT).
The rock-bottom Owls have won just once this season, 2-0 at Fratton Park in September.
Their points deduction and negative goal difference means they are effectively 33 points from safety, with 21st-placed Pompey the side they are chasing.
The Blues have taken one point from their past six on the road, losing without scoring on four of those occasions.
Sheffield Wednesday are unbeaten in their past eight league games against Portsmouth (W5 D3) since losing 3-1 in November 2002.
Portsmouth have lost on one of their past six league visits to Sheffield Wednesday (W2 D3), losing 4-1 in League One in April 2022.
Sheffield Wednesday have won one of their past 27 league games (D10 L16) but that win was against Portsmouth earlier this season. The last time a second tier side's first two wins in a season were against the same opponent was in 1974/75, two wins for Portsmouth against Nottingham Forest.
Portsmouth have conceded 15 goals from set pieces in the Championship this season – the only side to concede more is Sheffield Wednesday (17). All four goals they shipped against Arsenal in their FA Cup third round defeat were also via set pieces.
Sheffield Wednesday have gone 19 consecutive Championship matches without a win. In second tier history, the only sides to go 20+ games without a win in a season are Darwen in 1898-99 (27), Barnsley in 1952-53 (23), Cambridge United in 1983-84 (31) and Rotherham in 2004-05 (20).
The Northern Ireland international damaged his left shoulder during the Owls' FA Cup defeat to Brentford on Saturday and had to be substituted.
It would mark the second time this season the 20-year-old will have been out of action for an extended spell, after sustaining an injury on his right shoulder in August that ruled him out for over three months.
Charles has made 11 appearances this season and his performances have been one of the few highlights of a challenging campaign for the Owls.
It may also affect his availability for Northern Ireland's World Cup play-off semi-final against Italy on 26 March.

Goalkeeper Pierce Charles could be facing another injury lay-off after damaging a shoulder in Sheffield Wednesday's FA Cup third round defeat by Brentford.
The Northern Ireland international has been in fine form for the Owls since returning in December from a shoulder problem which required surgery and kept him out for three months.
Wednesday manager Henrik Pedersen revealed that the 20-year-old hurt the other shoulder after defying the Premier League opposition with a series of saves, forcing him to be replaced by debutant Logan Stretch.
Pedersen told BBC Radio Sheffield: "It's the opposite shoulder and right now we don't know but he has a lot of pain, so maybe a scan tomorrow and maybe we'll know more.
"It's awful for him. He is such an important part of our way of playing, defensively and offensively, and how he has played since he came back is fantastic.
"It's so sad if it's another injury to keep him out for weeks or longer. I really hope the best for him, he deserves it."

It is really sad to see what has happened at Sheffield Wednesday and there is no way for them to salvage their season now.
Brentford are flying at the moment under Keith Andrews and they are another club who I'd love to see have a real go at the FA Cup this season.
The Bees have never got past the quarter-finals in their history, and have not even got that far since 1989. You only have to look at Palace last year to find a team winning it for the first time so it is definitely doable for them too.
