And that just about wraps things up for today, and we can report on an England win, a welcome ray of light in a winter of gloom.

Timothy Abraham's match report is available for your perusal, so I'll sign off for today but don't forget that the series decider starts at 09:00 GMT on Tuesday.

Joe Root was the definition of 'unruffled' in that innings, keeping things ticking over until he slowed down a touch. He stroked five fours from 90 deliveries, and he now has 45 fifties in ODIs in addition to 19 centuries.

This has been much better from an England perspective. They could’ve easily gone for a thrash about and lost a load of wickets quickly. Good tight bowling and a lot more sensible batting this time around gets the job done without any real nervy moments. A solid performance.

That sets up the third match for a winner-takes-all decider on Tuesday, doesn't it?

Sri Lanka will rue not setting a tougher target - another 20-30 runs would have made things very interesting.

Credit England despite a wobble in losing Root and Brook so close together, Buttler in no mood to let Sri Kanka back in. Sensible match winning cricket from England.

That's a beautiful shot to finish off the game. It's a win they needed. The pressure was never really on in the chase but for the England supporters, they can see an England win, the first in a long time.

I see no sense in Jos Buttler coming in at 6 with 40 overs gone. He’s one of the best in the world and can get us to a strong position earlier. Save these nervy few overs
