1. SA 113-5published at 16 overs

New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner is clearly feeling charitable, tossing South Africa a couple of wides. He also concedes two singles, leaving him with figures of 0-25 from his four overs.

Four overs to go. When are South Africa going to burst into life? Are they going to burst into life?

This game is on a knife edge. South Africa need to find momentum here and these two batters can get them to a really good score.

  3. SA 108-5published at 15 overs

Lockie Ferguson returns to the attack and opens with a slow yorker which Marco Jansen jabs his bat in front of.

His first four deliveries yield four singles but before he can bowl the fifth the siren goes to indicate a no ball.

No panic from Ferguson, however. Two singles and a dot to finish. Not much timing on display from South Africa's batters.

This is a tricky period for South Africa but what they do have is Marco Jansen and Tristan Stubbs play together in the SA20.

They need to take the game deep and try to capitalise; these two will be experienced in that.

  5. SA 101-5published at 14 overs

Tristan Stubbs dabs and runs to bring up South Africa's 100 off the penultimate ball of the over.

Marco Jansen lines up to pound Rachin Ravindra for another boundary but doesn't connect and has to settle for a single.

10 off the over. Stubbs and Jansen have put on 24 (22) for the sixth wicket.

Ravindra finishes with figures of 2-29.

That was an over-spinner from Rachin Ravindra looking to get bounce but Marco Jansen is rangey. A lovely loft over the bowler.

That's more like it from Marco Jansen! A step down and hammered down the ground for six. Bowler Rachin Ravindra gawps up to the sky as he follows its trajectory.

There's a boundary! It's very fortuitous, Marco Jansen squirting an edge through third for four. He has to look around for the ball, which tells you how unintentional it was.

    Seven off the over.

  9. SA 84-5published at 12 overs

Rachin Ravindra's third over yields four singles and two dots.

South Africa have only scored two boundaries - both sixes - since the end of the fifth over.

170 will be an amazing effort from here. Everything will need to go South Africa's way to get there.

Jimmy Neesham was slapped about for 17 runs in his one powerplay over.

On his return to the attack, he's picked up the big wicket of Dewald Brevis, who smacked 42 (18) against Zimbabwe, and conceded just three singles.

What will South Africa be confident of defending? 150? 160? Feels a long way away.

Soft again. There is no foot movement towards the ball which suggests the pitch is not coming on as South Africa thought.

They need to negotiate their game to compromise that.

Another gift of a wicket for New Zealand. Dewald Brevis spoons a catch to Mitchell Santner, who moves a step or two to his left in the covers.

South Africa are five down in the 11th over. Did anyone have that on their bingo card?

South Africa are really struggling for their timing in this innings. The pitch is not an absolute belter as we first thought.

New Zealand will still be regretting those catches but there is certainly pressure on the lower-middle order now.

Relief for Glenn Phillips - his drop doesn't prove costly!

David Miller, dropped on three, doesn't get the required distance and the ball plops safely into the hands of Daryl Mitchell just inside the rope.

At the halfway mark, South Africa are 77-4.

One of Zimbabwe's players attempted an audacious one-handed sweep against South Africa on Sunday but didn't get the desired connection.

Dewald Brevis, however, absolutely nails his one-hander, pounding Rachin Ravindra over long-on for six.
